Grade 5
From age 10, by ability
RAD Grades 4 and 5 refine technique, musicality, and artistry while introducing greater physical and artistic challenges. Students explore modern ballet and Character Dance, learning Russian and Italian styles in Grade 4 and Polish and Spanish in Grade 5, enhancing coordination and cultural appreciation. As an Ofqual-regulated qualification at Level 2 (GCSE Grades A–C/NVQ Level 2), these grades provide a strong foundation for further training. We recommend pairing them with Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) to build strength and control.

Part of the RAD Discovering Repertoire syllabus, Level 2 preserves ballet’s rich heritage through structured learning. It includes a basic class unit and two units focusing on development exercises leading to iconic ballet variations. These stage-inspired variations offer an authentic performance experience. Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is an innovative program developed by Marie Walton-Mahon to enhance muscle memory, core stability, alignment, and strength for ballet and contemporary dancers. With over 40 years of experience, Marie has trained professional dancers worldwide, and our certified teachers integrate her method alongside RAD training. PBT is ideal for all levels, offering a ballet-inspired workout that improves flexibility, injury recovery, and strength. The class focuses on pelvic alignment, core stability, back, shoulders, legs, and feet, ending with safe stretching techniques students can practice at home. Whether a dancer or fitness enthusiast, PBT enhances technique and overall body conditioning.
